The troops were ultimately successful in keeping to their deadline, and the sections of the road northwest of Kluane Lake were officially linked in October of 1942. The official opening ceremony of the Alaska Highway was held on November 20, 1942 beside Kluane Lake, Yukon. Many dignitaries from both Canada and the United States attended.
