Chapter 2:Construction & Maintenance
25 km of Highway washed out
Approximately twenty-five kilometers of the Alaska Highway was washed out between Silver City and Halfbreed Creek beside Kluane National Park in the second week of July 1988. Highway crews brought in temporary bridges and the highway was reopened on July 17, only twenty-four hours after this photograph was taken. Mountain river floods still plague the Alaska Highway.
