Chapter 6:Alaska Highway Today
Watson Lake signpost
The signpost forest at Watson Lake was started by a homesick soldier who in 1942 placed a sign indicating the distance to his home town of New York City. Other workers on the Alaska Highway added signs for their own hometowns. When the war ended visitors travelling over the Alaska Highway were unable to resist the impulse to add their towns to the growing display. ca. 1970s.
