Chapter 5:Canol Project
The Canol refinery in Whitehorse
The Canol refinery in Whitehorse under construction, October 29, 1943. This refinery came in thousands of pieces by ship to Skagway, Alaska, then over the White Pass and Yukon Route railway. These pieces were shipped from 2000 suppliers in various parts of North America, such as Corpus Christi, Texas and Hamilton, Ontario. This photograph shows the caustic treating building with an alkylation unit under construction and a piping trench in the foreground.
