Lou Haskell (left) and William Chandler with wood-plugged pipe (possible sabotage) and cracked pipe (possible factory defect). The Canol project was plagued with problems on many levels, from top management indecision to bad working conditions (causing men to leave the job in large numbers) and even sabotage. Both men pictured in this photograph worked for Standard Oil Company, operator of the Canol pipeline and refinery system after completion by Bechtel-Price-Callahan. ca. 1943-44.
