Chapter 3:Impact of the Highway
Employees after shooting two bears
U.S. Public Roads Administration (PRA) employees after shooting two bears. The non-resident hunting fee for the Yukon ($100) was waived to allow U.S. Army and PRA construction crews to hunt as residents. This move contrasted with the province of British Columbia and state of Alaska, where game laws were stiffened during the construction of the highway. The men in this photo are (circle from left to right around the vehicle) Darrel Chaffin, Louie Libecker, Don Duffy Jr., Paul Schider, a Yukon guide (Ivan?), and Don Duffy. ca. 1943.
