Chapter 2:Construction & Maintenance
The Milepost travel booklet
The northern traveler’s bible. This 1949 edition of THE MILEPOST, possibly the first, is a compilation of "descriptive logs" of the Alaska Highway and other northern routes, including sights, accommodations and services, and hunting and fishing information. For each milepost on the Alaska "log", the book identifies items that will be of interest to "the sportsman, the vacationist, and the lensman". Numerous photographs of scenes and activities of the early days of the highway are also featured in this edition. THE MILEPOST is still published annually in Anchorage, Alaska, although the size, format and style have changed considerably over the past 35 years.
