Maintenance and Use of Alaska Highway: 1944-Present Archives Gallery

This map shows an abandoned camp at Milepost 687. It appears that for several years during the 1950s, the Department of Defence kept track of the abandoned construction camps along the highway in this atlas. Most of the buildings built by the U.S. Army had a life expectancy of 5 to 10 years. In 1955, the year this atlas was published, the buildings had surpassed that life. Accordingly, the ratings for most buildings included "poor", "useless" and "collapsed".
